Hi There-

Long story short; I've installed new android/carplay head unit (see sample pic at bottom). I am trying to figure out how I connect to the existing stock rear view camera. Not sure it is possible as the 'new' unit only has a RCA style vidoe connector.

I believe its a 4 pin HSD Z connector (#1 or #2?). BUT... I 'think' I need to convert the 4PIN to a RCA connector if possible--- Something like this Link

Question -
What are the connections on the back of the ORIGINAL head unit (see above)?

Mine only had the main harness plug with the antenna, camera & usb connected. I always just use the wireless CarPlay, but was surprised to find out the factory in dash USB works to charge my phone too. But I never really use that USB, I installed a aux battery cig lighter socket that runs a fast charger if a change is needed.

I looked at the factory mic in the control panel, and that connection alone seemed very difficult to remove without breaking. I thought I could have replaced the aftermarket unit mic with the factory and having it invisible. However if you install in the mirror plastic housing in the headliner, it won't be very noticeable and you will forget it is there.

I also thought that maybe the aftermarket microphone would be more "optimized" for the head unit and a possibility of a bad connection would be less.

If you haven't already, you can read more on my installation thread:

And if you do end up figuring out the factory mic connection, please let us all know. You might be able to find some more clues from Sprinter forums.

Sorry for being a noob, but what do you mean "control panel"?

Hey i dint know if you still interested in finding out or found the solution but i was in the same situation and you can connect the stock camera. On your unit you have to go into back camera settings and change the camera type from ADHD to cvbs and your stock is gonna start working. But mine has an image with distortion now just keep in mind your prob. gonna be the same
