About 6 months ago my 2018 Metris Cargo Van (bought new) misfired cyl #1 on startup. Turned off and turned on ran fine. Dealer said yes but could not find cause. 2 months ago same only this time #1 and #4 misfired. Again dealer said they know when and what but not why from the computer. Friday (April 30) it did it again only this time when I turned key off and then on it missed again. Later in the day did it twice. After that ran fine. Dealer is 1 hour away so brought it in overnight. Dealer again said monitor but could not find cause. Since I have 30K miles and close to service I had them replace plugs though I doubt that's it but it is the cheapest part on the train of things that it could be. Dealer said shut off and have towed but that won't work as once it's off and then turned on it runs fine. I suggested the dealer talk to it 'auf Deutsch' (I'm semi fluent having worked in Berlin in the 60's. So since dealer is clueless and computer really needs to be a real brain that tells why it happens I thought I'd ask if anyone has suggestions. When my Rav4 had problems the forums had the answers so I could get the dealer to service correctly.. I'm hoping.. PLEASE Suggestions

The truth is you have something in the process of failing. It’s not your plugs or your coil packs because it’s affecting more than one cylinder, and generally I don’t think we’ve seen any misfire issues on anyone’s vans yet so the idea that two of them failed on the first van we’ve heard of is a bit hard to swallow.

Your best course of action is to wait for it to fully fail, at which point they’ll have a better idea of what it is.

Thanks for your input. Trouble is on the Big Island it's 1 hour or more drive each way to the dealer and if the engine fails .. Kaput.. Changing the spark plugs (expensive at dealer )was more of a bone to them so at least the think I'm helping because all these trips are costing them out of pocket (it's not a real dealer on this island but a certified MB only service center)

A broader search may be required. Maybe try an overall MB forum?

I know first hand it is a pain to be 1 to 1-1/2 hours away from a dealer, or an indie shop, time, no loaner, … Downside of driving import cars on the continent. On an island, I can imagine it is worse with parts.

How long is your warranty?
Make sure to have it documented. Ask what the next step is. What if …

I have the extended warranty plus it is all documented since the first at less than 25 K mile

PS: When I mentioned a broader search or other overall forum, I meant not one specific and small like this one, but big ones like mbworld or benzworld which cover all mb vehicles; and where people may have had this cylinder issue on another mb vehicle that uses the same engine.

The same question in a different section here, is not likely to help, I'm afraid.

Icerabbit is right. This is probably not a Metris-related problem but rather related to parts common to all M274 and probably M270 (same basic engine but transverse application) found not only on Metris vans, but some Sprinters, and most gas-powered A, B, C, and E grade Cars (A,CLA,GLA,B,GLB,C,GLC,SLC,E, and GLE) sold worldwide. Just because it hasn’t turned up here doesn’t mean it hasn’t turned up.

I bought a 22 Metris new, had a check engine light on at 7,000 miles. Only on cold start, very rough running. Cycle ignition and instantly smooth. I just dropped it off for 4th visit for same issue and will be interesting to see what is found. So far they swapped coils around (existing coils), replaced 1 fuel injector. When it runs rough its always a cold start and its a hard miss.

Dealer is going to have diagnostic plugged in when they cold start it.

Thanks for posting this. My brand new '23 cargo van had the same issue. The dealer couldn't find anything and after another tank of gas from a different gas station the problem went away by itself. I had suspected some kind of contamination. I guess if the problem ever returns, I can let the dealer know what to check.
