Outside of the dealership, would I be limited to shops that service commercial vehicles and Sprinters if something needs to be fixed with the Metris?

I have an independent MB shop that services my other cars and they were recently trained on the Metris. I'll probably take my van there too.

You are limited when servicing any Mercedes, at least if you are prudent. But many areas have Mercedes specialists who shouldn't have an issue with the Metris. Don't service your car at a place who isn't very familiar with MB vehicles though. Many a horror story has come from that.

Thanks very much. I wasn't sure if the metris fell in "commercial van" category or "minivan" category. One of the german autobody shops I called basically smirked when I said it was a van....

It is a commercial van, basically. But any Mercedes specialist should be able to handle it. It is built with the same logic and concepts as any other Mercedes.

Independent Metris mechanic

I had a great experience to service my Metris at Fixmysprinter in Los Angeles. They work on Mercedes , and they have many Sprinter and Metris vans on service as well. I could see many of them there. I found this place on google They look pretty busy , so call them first 310.3244004tel
