New metris owner, quick question...When I unlock the doors, open, the vents are on/running? What is the deal with that?
From the Order Guide:

FZ8: Remote opening/closing of windows

Allows the automatic opening and closing of the front windows to ventilate the vehicle before starting the trip. When the unlock button on the remote key is held down (for more than one second) within the reception range of the infrared sensor on the driver’s door handle, the vehicle is unlocked and the front side windows open. The vehicle ventilation will be also activated for two minutes with lower fan speed. The windows can be closed in the same way using the convenience closing function by holding down the locking button on the remote key. The windows can be completely or only partially closed or opened, depending on how long the remote key is pressed. The vehicle ventilation will also be disabled. For security reasons this function only operates from the immediate vicinity of the driver’s door.

The OP asked a different question. The windows don't open, the air vents blow air out for a few seconds. Mine does the same. Every time aI open the back doors or sliding door, the vents blow air out. After a few seconds, maybe a minute, they stop if the van is not started.

Why it does that, I don't know.

Mine does it too! But, I think it only does it when the A/C is left on from the previous drive. IDK

Well, the original post says "unlock the doors, open" which could encompass the remote window function. He didn't state which button he used or how long he pressed it.

Regardless, I think it's relevant that MB describes an intentional feature where running the blower for a timed period is linked to door unlocking. Even if it isn't under exactly the same circumstances.

Mine does that too. Oddly, none of the MB sedans I have owned did that. They both blow air up the windshield defrost slots on initial startup before cycling to dash vents - or wherever you have them really set - after less than a minute. Odd... but consistent behavior in the MB universe... Oh, and the manuals for the cars do explain this to varying degrees a bit better than the Metris'...

Even if you don't unlock doors, it still 'blows'. My cargo van features this...don't know if its standard on all Metris or part of specific package.

I broke down and RTFM. Apropos of Metrisguy's remark, the section on remote windows ends with the following paragraph:

At high interior temperatures, the blower is also switched on when a door is opened. This means that slightly cooled air enters the vehicle interior after the engine is started, to cool the vehicle more rapidly.

This appears to be a feature of the optional climate control.

Wait, there's a manual that comes with this 30k+ machine?

That's not exactly the same function. Specifically that's the hvac drying function. The fan tied to the door opening is for "precooling"
This also points to delivery "specialists" not doing their job explaining functions of your vehicle.
Another lack of knowledge of this van.

RobbMeeX is correct. If you look at page 117 of the manual (I'm looking at a 2017 book now, but I believe they are the same), it's listed as pre-entry climate control. The blower kicks on at low speed when opening the door to begin cooling the van down. It's listed under the convenience opening section, but serves the same purpose...to help cool down the van as quick as possible by 'getting a jump' on the air circulating with the blower motor running.

This would explain it.
