Trailering question

Hello, I am the owner of a new 2021 Metris and have been posting a variety of things I am wondering about.

Could someone advise me on whether I need to buy a sperate trailer brake controller for towing or if this is built into the Metris towing package. I am very ignorant about how all of this works, but on my older vehicles I have a separate aftermarket controller box that is tunable to apply the right amount of braking to the trailer brakes. Is this built into the Metris's modern towing system or do I need to add another aftermarket box?

Thanks!

Great question. So, 19 and on is supposed to have a trailer brake connector present. I've been to the dealer and asked them to show me where it's located. They looked and gave up. Doesn't mean it's not there. They just gave up and I haven't poked around everywhere. So, if you just bought from a dealer and have the hitch package you may want to try your luck with asking them. Share if you find it.

For completeness, should people find this question trying to find an answer regarding trailering and brake controllers, there is a new discussion with the location of the harness wire and connector behind the glove box:

This has been a very frustrating issue for me. I bought a used 2016 Metris after my research indicated that it was a good option for a rear-wheel-drive van that could tow up to 5,000 lbs. It had a dealer-installed hitch but no brake controller. Other manufacturers have a "plug-in" connector for after-market brake controllers, but not MB. My options were to pay an automotive electrical specialist by the hour to figure out how to connect a brake controller, or use a Bluetooth brake controller that didn't need to be hard-wired into the Metris. I chose the latter (a Curt Echo), and it's far from a perfect solution, but at least I have a brake controller.
