The recall inspection and remedy are available on the upcoast part of the Central California coast that's not yet burning.

I just scheduled the recall inspection for next week. The service writer (who I've worked with mostly for 6 years) told me the recall didn't show back in their system until January 9, 2025. There was clearly something strange at NHTSA when I posted in early December, but I am not going to try to suss it out.

That was indeed strange for it to disappear; and it seems quite likely to me, that your diligence put it back on the radar.

Who knows how their systems work and who has access to what features 😬
I have no fantasy like that, but thank heaven the Constitution allows us to make pests of ourselves to the government or private industry, as needed.

I confirm that the NHTS tire recall on my vehicle was missing for a while but shows up again now when doing a lookup. I have no doubt MB was trying to get out of it and something backfired on them. @focus805 Thank you for putting pressure on where it was needed. Hopefully the right psi's in a new set soon-ish. My status shows up as "Recall Incomplete" as of the moment.

So a spot check for any of you with the recall on your vin. If you go out at get the latest copy of the owners manual for your year are the tires on your van at this moment in our out of spec per the manual?

I received the same notice from Carfax and confirmed that my vin is applicable. I plan on scheduling repair tomorrow with MB dealership. The anticipated fix of lowering the vehicle payload is very disappointing, I have already upgraded my tires and tend to push the current rated rear axle capacity just loading up the family and gear for vacation. I’m expecting the new rear axle weight rating pushes me to a bigger vehicle. If anyone has gone through the recall repair already please share details . I will report back with any new information once completed.
Question: What is the appropriate load rating? I have a 2016 with 4 Michelin Defenders rated H. Is that considered adequate?

I thought you were tired of this subject @pounce? (pun intended) I suspect the quote is just more bad translation, not a pitfall. If you are implying that Daimler won't replace tires that match the owners manual 225 rating (p. 290ish), that's inconsistent with i) other owners' reports, ii) MB's statement that 235's are due, and iii) NHTSA's site. What I believe they are trying to say is that if you have already upgraded the tires to a higher load rating, you don't get new tires or compensation.

Just back from dropping off our Metris at the dealership for a number of recalls and sliding door tune up. They offered to replace all five tires per the federal recall: 4 continental concentrates, 1 Goodyear for spare.

I currently have 4 Toyo Open Country HT II’s on the van with 6mm tread depth and agreed to the replacement. I’m mainly highway touring and occasionally on NF roads. Anyone have experience with these Continental tires, particularly in snow or light off-road conditions?

If it helps, the replacement tires on my 2020 are Falken 101V XL. ( replacing OEM Hankooks )
101 and XL is what matters for load.
The letter after the 101 is a speed rating ... with higher letters having a higher speed index, but none of us are hitting a race track, I think.

Since Defenders are 101 XL ... MB is probably going to say those tires are fine, no replacement.

I'll be finding out in a couple hours. On my way to dealer with venerable Defenders in 255/55R/101's. IIRC, the Michelin Defenders match the OEM load and speed ratings of the Hankook Noble Ventus. If so, the recall would be pointless, so I doubt that's their intention.

This is so exiting. Take pictures. Get a selfie with the service rep. Tell us what snacks they have and their k cup of the month. Seriously.
PM me your address. Maybe Daimler can send you an attitude adjustment kit
