Hello All,
My Metris rebuild has been running like a top however, I replaced the electronic steering rack (from a 20k donor) which seams to have a resistance point somewhere half way between turning the wheel left to lock.
Upon starting the van and moving if I do not first turn enough to the left to get over this light resistance then upon driving my steering wheel wants to pull to the right when going straight. The steering wheel will literally turn right.
After getting over the resistance point and turning back to straight the steering wheel stays perfectly straight and the car drives down the road straight as an arrow and there is no more resistance point anywhere in the range of turning. Leading me to believe this is not a mechanical defect with the rack but perhaps a position sensor or angle sensor that is not working properly...
I did a quick hunt on youtube and found the ESP malfunction is typically caused by steering wheel angle sensor behind the steering wheel. But that was in a different model Benz. I believe it was a car.
This vehicle was in a left side collision and I'm curious if there is in fact a "steering angle sensor" behind the steering wheel and if this is related to my steering rack phenomena and the ESP Malfunction.
Does the Metris have one of the steeling wheel angle sensors?
