I would like to start using a radar detector in our van. Where does one plug in the detector? Down the road, I would like to hardwire it using a piggyback ATO fuse for a non-invasive, easily reversible connection.

Suggestions, please?

I'd get a 3-1 lighter splitter and plug it in under to the 12v source at the base of the center console. Actually I wouldn't use a radar detector at all. They are sort of redundant to a good pair of eyes.

If you do get one, the V1 remains the best by far.

I didn't realize there was a plug down there. Will use for the meantime. I did buy a 3-way splitter which I was hoping to hard wire to the fusebox, hide inside the console in front of the left knee to keep it accessible for plugging in a radar detector, a dash cam and a real gps.

I'm not an intentional megaspeeder, I just like to know when traffic is being monitored and slowing down ahead. I'd love to have a V1 but have settled on a Uniden LDR7 because it has frequency display, compass and is comprehensive with reportedly incredible range straight ahead and wide for the open highway which we need because of extensive travel for hockey. It has a built in GPS to mark local falses in the city because the Metris is our kiddy's daily shuttle, making it the right tool for our needs. Plus, the OLED display matches perfectly with display on our Metris and E320.

The V1 is excellent would be sweet for the directional info, bogey counter and incredible range but using it is more involved to use for red light cameras data base since it requires ongoing use of a smart phone during operation, putting the Escort Max 360 at an advantage but unfortunately, the 360 and the V1 are around double the cost.
