Speaking of mirrors. Has anyone noticed that the side views on the Metris actually magnify a bit? If you look back at a car using rear view and then look to your side view it registers as two different vehicles because of the visual size difference. Add on a convex helper and now you're having to interpret 3 sizes of approaching vehicle.

I've been driving similar size vehicles for over 30 years and I'm adjusting to the Metris, but it's definitely an adventure that shouldn't be. The mirror system really is the worst possible design on these.

Your not the first person I heard it from and I can already see this becoming into a thread about alternatives which wouldn't be a bad idea. Better start looking into that now since quality visibility is key here, especially with a vehicle as big as ours.

New member, considering a Metris for my business...
Just did an extended test drive, and I had very few complaints. But yes, what is with that passenger side mirror, do they want me to crash it? First vehicle I've ever driven that appears to have a flat mirror instead of convex, a really poor choice. I could lose an entire other van on that side regardless of adjustments.

My favorite van ever (so far) was a 1973 Dodge B200 with "west coast" mirrors, which were flat. Granted, the side doors had glass, but I never found a shortage of visibility. Also, it was good for hauling and backing trailers.

BTW, the glass in the passenger side door is my first request from Mercedes in the Metris cargo I want.

Really incomprehensible decision, I'd love to hear their reasoning (but suspect never will, one dealer told me all commercial vehicles are similar (I ran away pretty quick)).

I'd suggest at least cargo door windows and if you're comfortable security wise a window in the passenger side sliding door. You have to get use to double, triple checking lane changes, and night time is especially tough. That said it's still a great van that fills a much needed market niche.

To Parsi - Does that mean that the glass on the right side sliding door on the cargo van IS available?
I haven't been to a dealer yet to ask that. I've only scoured everything I can find to read. I definitely want a Metris cargo, not a passenger model. Thanks

Hmmm, now that you mention it I'm not sure. Thought I remember the dealer mentioning it but there's nothing in the online build specs. Maybe I'm confusing two conversations, best to run it past the dealer.

My dealer said they could put in a aftermarket window on the passenger side. Said it would look just like stock but who knows.
I just ordered my new Metris cargo van with a fixed window in both sliding doors from the factory. $125 MSRP each. This would cost way more after market. This option was not listed in the original option list and is available now with out also ordering the bulkhead.

That there ^^^ deserves a sticky.
Sounds like instead of mirror upgrades they're poking holes in the side of the van.>:D

Thanks LB

I suggest we all band together and file a complaint with the NTSB. The side mirrors are extremely poor and have caused me to regret buying the vehicle. I purchased a cargo van model fully loaded with all options. The safety systems work but are not enough to give me adequate sight when weaving thru Manhattan traffic. If we file a complaint there me be hope of a safety recall.
