Middle Seat

We really want to get an 8 passenger. The majority of the PV on lots right now are 7 passenger. My dealer is telling me they can not order the 3 passenger middle seat and change the middle seat, the only way to get the 8 passenger is to get it built that way from the factory. MB is very slow getting the van to the states. We were told if we ordered one now it would probably be April before we could take delivery. We really want to get a new van soon. There are a few options we really need and we want an 8 passenger van. Has anyone else had discussions with dealers about changing a currently built van from 7 passenger to 8 passenger.

It is both impossible and child's play. The both vans have a three position fixed bench in the rear and a two position bench in the middle. There are three mounts for each row. This doesn't vary based on van.

But the two place bench in the second row is different depending on ordered configuration. The third seat for the second row has a support built into the second row two place bench. The seven seater two place bench is lacking that support.

You can swap the entire middle row bench for the type that allows three seats- don't need to use the dealer for the refit. But if you order a Seven seater, the two place bench will not work with the eighth seat.

As for parts availability for the bench swap, no idea. Perhaps Rob can help.
I asked my dealer if they could order the three seat bench after we take delivery and he said Mercedes will not let them do anything with the seats. He said there parts dept couldn't even order the three place seat. If I knew I could buy just the seat even sometime down the road I would pull the trigger on a van they located for us.
You'll likely see seats pop up on eBay once upfitters start to buy the vans for camper conversions, assuming that some will buy passenger vans in order to have the windows. This has been the case with other vans on the market. Although it might be a while since the Metris is so new.
I turned mine in yesterday or I'd try it for you. (front to back swap)
I'll see if anyone knows about the seats being separate.
A bit late but the sprinter foreman said yes you can put the third row in the second
I work at RBM of Alpharetta in Sprinter sales outside of Atlanta GA. I currently have 11 passenger vans with the 8 seat option. Let me know how I can help.

Ok. I'm just realizing that an assumption I made may be wrong. I ordered a passenger Metris with 8 seats thinking that I could remove the single and use with a 2+2+3 set up or a 2+1+3 or 2+3+2 or even 2+3+1. Admittedly some of those are odd and would need to access the third row through the back but I liked the idea of having options. Does anyone know if the 2nd row can be split into 2 and 1 or if it's fixed together and 2+3+3, 2+0+0 or 2+0+0 are my only configurations.
With an eight passenger, you can have

2-0-0
2-3-3
2-2-3
2-3-2
2-0-3
2-0-2
2-2-0
2-3-0

The single seat that makes up the eighth passenger seat requires the the two place bench for safe installation.

Also, although it is my configuration, putting the fixed third row seat in the second row while a seat is fitted to the third row is not proper, as the third rowers larger than a toddler can't get out without someone opening the tailgate for them.

I just bought an 8 passenger van here in the SF bay area. I would like to sell the 3 seat bench if anyone is interested.
My plan is to buy another 2 seat bench (once they start selling/distributing more parts) and remove the flip up seat ...to create a 2-2-2 seating configuration.
Anyone on here have a need/use for a 3 seat leatherette bench? And eventually I'll want to sell the flip up seat as well, but until I get another 2 seat bench, I'm using the flip up for 5 passenger configuration.

I am the owner of an 8-passenger, ordered in July from my local MB dealership.

Am I reading this correctly? The middle seat can be made into a 2 seat but not a single.
Exactly. Since the single seat needs the double seat for support, it can't be used on its own.
Single seat option would need a custom made bracket to make up the difference of removing the DOUBLE seat-that carries with it that big PIN the single rests on-what do we think the odds are someone making an aftermarket bracket? slim to none? Just bought this van yesterday and was hoping I can have the 2nd row down to just ONE...want to have the back full of 3 bikes, mom/dad up front, kid in the single-now thats not possible.

You know that big PIN you mentioned? Is it possible to just purchase the pin and add it to our 2nd row 2-seat bench. We currently have a 7 seat configuration, and want to add the 8th folding chair to the second row. But our current second row bench doesn't have the big PIN.

Do we have to buy all 3 seats for the second row? Or can we buy just the single folding chair and the pin?
i just changed my 2017 Metris 8-seater to European V-Class seats. So I have 3 passenger bench seat for second row (2+1) and another 3 seater for third row. I will attach a photo of how they look. I am trying to sell both 2nd and 3rd bench seats along with floor rails. Anyone interested?
