I'm Robbie, and I'm interested in getting a Metris.
I'm a certified Mercedes Benz tech. Only on cars, no vans.
We had a black bumpered white body get PDI'd last week and I thought "Hey, I could drive that" as I'm currently in the market for a Tacoma. It's basically a truck I can put stuff in the back of with a warranty, efficient 4 cylinder TURBO, and parts that are readily available at my work. It seems like a win win win. Price isn't terrible...
I am still on the fence about the size of the thing, but I talked to the sales manager today about taking one on a drive home. I want to put it through crazy traffic before I pull the trigger.
I want the Metris as a utilitarian van I can haul friends around on trips, haul my motorcycle, and eventually buckle my kid into (eventually) and not be worried about safety. I still have to convince the wife that the price isn't crazy...
Drop your thoughts on me, let me know what you think.

Robbie, welcome to the forums.

Tacomas are good, durable trucks, but I'd much rather be in a Metris. I'm curious -- does Mercedes offer you a generous employee discount on a Metris? I heard something about how Mercedes dealer employees can lease Mercedes cars at incredible discounts.

Seems like the Metris fits your needs.

Can you get certified on Mercedes vans? How long would that take?
I'm very much hoping for the major discount. I'll probably pass if I can't get a deal as its on the upper end of my budget already. The master lease program doesn't cover Sprinters and the Metris (Metrii?)

Its honestly not worth it for me to get van certified. We have 3 van techs who currently sit around on a guarantee as the Sprinter and now Metris business get built. I turn plenty of hours as it is working on the cars. Plus, when it comes to warranty work, its a conflict of interest for a tech to work on his/her own vehicle.

I heard today that our price according to the handbook is 3% over invoice and according to hearsay is $500 over invoice.

I'm hoping to get a loaner Metris next weekend to put some miles in. I'll talk price after that. Someone else here said if thet ordered now, it would ship February...

We just shipped our preproduction Metris to a different dealership :frown: But I believe we have like 5 on our lot including an upfitter display model.
I got mine at invoice, actually, and I'm not an employee.... (I am, however, a professional retail buyer) Unless you are talking the "real" invoice price versus the one they show on the price list.
I'm assuming there's real cost, invoice price, and regular price. It'll definitely be in between... Cheaper I hope than how I've built it online

Long time lurker just registered. Can you post the price you paid with your packages? And how to find the invoice prices? The dealers I've been visiting saying they would sell them at sticker's price because they consider these are for commercial buyers.
I am, as I said, a professional buyer. I used to run a retail store, and negotiating prices on things I buy is something I am naturally gifted at.

My car is detailed in my post "My Metris". It lists at $40,500 and I got it for $37,792. I ordered it on May 19th, before anybody had any idea what the uptake was going to be. I ordered it sight unseen.

The salesman was not happy with the trick I used to get him to agree to the price. I got a lot of "are you sure you want its" over the months waiting.

My car was oddly configured, since most well equipped vans have the Auto Climate and interior appearance package.

. . . Someone else here said if that ordered now, it would ship February...

Just thought I'd tell a little story about shipping dates. In early August I called the dealer in Charleston, SC in hopes that they would be able to get me in to see a Metris when they started arriving at the nearby assembly plant. The lady I talked to made it clear that she would be no help to me on that quest at all. But she did tell me that if I ordered immediately I wouldn't get delivery until February or March. Then she firmly added, "and if anyone tells you something different he is lying!"

We ordered a Metris August 18th. Our dealer estimated we'd get the Metris in December. Today I asked him if he had an update on the delivery. He checked and then emailed that our Metris has been built but not shipped yet. So he is still expecting delivery in December.
Ahh, thanks for the tip.

Currently, my car is at the dealership and a Metris is in the driveway. I will have a pro/con report when I can sit down at my computer. Not fully loaded but close. This weekend will help me decide if it comes home with me...
Finally got to talk with our sales guy today. I think I got the options worked out. Haven't had a chance to work with my credit union as I've been going non-stop at work working 7am-7pm. Looks like I built one at $41K. Now I gotta see what they can do for me.

Best of luck. Do come back and let us know how it goes.
I will definitely keep in touch with this site... Unless I'm denied a loan, then I'll never be back :p
I'm trying to document my whole process on this site. I signed up the day I fell in love with the Metris.
Just glanced at my preliminary build sheet and noticed I picked the wrong color, that would have been a bummer.
FOUND OUT YESTERDAY I WAS APPROVED! I gotta talk to our guy about getting it ordered. Should arrive right at my birthday!

Not sure if your interested in the passenger or the cargo, but just wanted to share my experience with the credit unions. I too was approved to buy a Metris. However, i found out later, that they will not finance a cargo van. It needs to have back seats and windows. So the cargo is a no go through my credit union and i still havent found a decent rate for what im looking for.

It's roughly 120 days out and I should have a vin by Friday.
My cargo stickered at 33, 3XX, and I got it down to 31600. This deal was done on the 30th of december, which was very intentional. I test drove it earlier in the month, and emailed the sales person several times before returning on almost the last day of the year.

For what it's worth, I used to drive a 2005 Tacoma, and I would prefer this any day.
Just got word she's in production! Still no vin though
