Every now and then my cruise control stops working, and I freak for a second until I noticed that I seem to have hit the button to disengage the ESP by mistake - which of course shuts off the cruise. Anybody know WHY you have to have ESP engaged for cruise to work? I guess I don't see the connection.

Safety precaution because ESP tries to make sure the van stays on the road.....

If you are not really fully driving the vehicle (and you aren’t if you have cruise control engaged) you really shouldn’t operate it without ESP. The other reason is the cruise control system will automatically disengage if ESP is triggered (i.e. you lose traction) and trust me you don’t want car continuing to try to go 70mph as your tail starts to swing wide on the interstate.

German engineers, and the cars they build, think they know better than us how to drive a car. Zehr veel be der penalties if you do not obey ze engineers, ja?
