Mercedes-Benz has always been on the bleeding edge of incorporating safety technologies.

That Mercedes is first to bring these technologies to the van segment is no surprise to me. And it's about time. I should be able to order a van that is as safe as my car.

I don't consider it safer, but it does allow me to pay less attention... ;)

It's all working us up to self-driving cars, all these features have small bits of self-driving DNA in them.

Imagine that, the day we have a completely self-driving metris :D
Well its not likely far off. Consumers are admitting day by day they can't operate a motorvehicle without the use of a cell phone.

Its bad enough texting and driving let alone the nuts out there taking and posting instagram selfies...

Oh great, who knows, maybe car makers will start including a driver facing camera for selfies and video.
That would be a privacy issue. GM got into hot water with its valet mode (that records valet trips from a front mounted camera) on the new Vette. I can only IMAGINE the uproar if they went a put a driver facing camera in the cockpit.
