Hi folks -

Apologies if there is a definite answer in other threads. I see a recurring comments about the lack of maintenance info in the owners documentation after say roughly 2019ish. I have a 2021 and some of the documentation references the “maintenance booklet” - I figure that has to the place with service intervals generally and for various parts as that info is not to be found in the operators manual or elsewhere.

I see Rockster described this as a catch 22 and felt like it was going in circles. Bottom line: Is there general agreement that the maintenance booklet does not exist for certain more recent years?

If so - what is the source or a couple good leads to get that type of interval and scheduled maintenance info for the layperson?

As has been pointed out - the 7 speed transmissions were indicated for a flush on the first service b. But I’m struggling to find out if that’s the same for the 9 speed.

PS - I called the corporate USA van customer support and was told to talk to a dealer / service department. But not before being told “A what? Oh - do we even still make those?” in reference to the Metris.

On all Mercedes they follow a "A" and "B" maintenance schedule. The A is essentially a oil change with othe checks, the B includes a A service but depending on mileage includes transmission and rear axle at higher mileages. On our US metris vans the A comes at 15k miles, the B is every other A. The 9-gtronic transmission (725.9) gets a flush at 30k miles (first B service) and then every other B service.

If you are wise you will cut the A service in half, especially if you are in a hot climate with the turbo engine.

I couldn’t find a maintenance schedule either, the dealer said that the vehicle will give alert when it is time. So far, that is what I have to rely on that. By the way, I usually go to a non dealer for maintenance since the cost is less and the attitude better.

On your in dash display, scroll to the screen that has I think it’s called ASSYST, and select that. It will give you an estimated mileage until the next service and tell you which service (A or B) that is supposed to be. It is based on usage up to 15k miles (which will be reduced depending on the type of driving you do) or 12 months from the last service, whichever comes first. I drive 18-19k gentle miles a year and it typically calls for a service based on about 14.5k miles.

It will also start showing you a non-persistent (disappears without acknowledgement) count down every start up or 100 mile threshold as you get to about 1500 iirc miles to the next service, and i think it becomes persistent as you get closer. It will then tell you “Service X exceeded by X00 miles” persistently once you reach that point.

It is my dealer service adviser‘s opinion that more frequent service is a waste of money, and his employer would be getting that money if he indicated otherwise.

I tend to agree. When doing that it's very important to keep highly detailed records when still under warranty. If you need to file a warranty claim for a big ticket item like an engine or transmission MB is likely to be critical of non MB service or absent records.
